Desire is the extra! It’s the ingredient that turns a life of mediocrity into one of outstanding success. Desire is the “Extra” that makes the little differences and it’s the little differences that make big differences.
At my place of work the slogan is “212 Degrees.” When you have the water temperature going up to 211 degrees, you have hot or very hot water. It’s adding that one degree, making it 212 degrees, that causes the hot water to boil. This turns the hot water into steam, which has the power to propel a steamship around the world.
I want to tell you a story about a man and his desire. Ben Hogan could well be, one of, if not the greatest golfer that ever lived. Ben was in a near fatal car accident and was told by the doctors his professional career was over. His doctors hadn’t factored Ben’s will and desire into the equation.
As soon as Ben could walk again, he revived his dream of golfing greatness. He strengthened himself in all areas of his game. With his scarred legs he started out slowly hitting a few balls every day, increasing all the time. Eventually Ben rejoined the tour and moved back to the top rapidly.
Yes, it’s the desire that makes the difference between an average player and a champion! The question is, are you fanning your desire to reach the boiling point of your dreams? 211 Degrees isn’t enough!
